Romo out for year after 2nd collarbone injury of season

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) is helped off the field by team staff after suffering an unknown injury in the second half of a game against the Carolina Panthers Nov. 26, 2015, in Arlington, Texas.

Romo may have broken his collarbone again Thursday after getting sacked by Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis on the final play of the third quarter.

It was the injury to Tony Romo, reportedly a second break to the left clavicle that caused him to miss eight weeks on injured reserve when he broke it the first time this year in the second game. That’s when Romo signed his most recent contract extension with the Cowboys, a move that was immediately followed by numerous back procedures and a few other injuries of relatively insignificant nature. “And really having a fairy tale turnaround and doing something that was special, to me, that’s what we’re about”.

One thing that has to be asked, is Tony Romo the new Chad Pennington? Cowboys DE Greg Hardy failed to record a tackle in his first game against the team that drafted him.

This is the third time Romo has fractured a collarbone. The Cowboy’s next opponent will be the Redskins on December 7.

Dallas was never really in the game at all, as the visiting Panthers got on the scoreboard just 59 seconds into the first quarter when Romo served up the first of his three picks on the day to Kurt Coleman. That is about to catch up with them, considering Romo’s salary cap hit the next four years: $20.835 million in 2016; $24.7 million in 2017; $25.2 million in 2018; and $23.7 million in 2019.

Cowboys coach, Jason Garrett, said Romo’s X-rays are still inconclusive and that he would need to undergo further medical examinations come Friday.

If that latter prediction comes true, it also means two selections within the top 40 picks, which is a clear invitation to finally grab a future franchise quarterback prospect to groom with a bit of urgency that might not have been expected just 32 months ago.

This comes after Romo endured back surgeries in 2013 and 2014. Sanchez was 19 of 27 for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

“I mean that with all due respect”, Favre said. The Cowboys have to go with Matt Cassel at quarterback for now. He also played through broken ribs and a punctured lung earlier in his career. They have allowed at least 45 points in two straight games in one season for the first time in team history.

The fact Rivera was concerned about an 8-yard rush by Darren McFadden – and that it was replayed as a highlight at AT&T Stadium – says a lot about the state of both teams, particularly as it relates to the Panthers’ run defense.

Newton had his team’s only offensive touchdown on a 4-yard run, and Carolina became the 16th team to start a season 11-0.
