“This year, Amex is not offering a statement credit offer for card members on Small Business Saturday, but is increasing the support and resources it provides to help small business owners market their business within their communities”.

Business begins to calm during the late hours on Black Friday, but some local stores in St. Joseph are gearing up for Small Business Saturday.

Shop owners in downtown Wilmington are looking forward to Small Business Saturday to boost them into the new year financially. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, money spent at local small businesses generates 3.7 times more direct local economic benefit than spending at chain stores.

Within both local towns and in the county, there are restaurants, retail businesses, sales and fix appliance locations, hardware stores, drug stores, florist and gift shops, and many other locations.

“We want people to think local first and shop downtown”, Moore said.

Vilsack: “Small businesses are the lifeblood of rural America”.

Small businesses are also sometimes overlooked as a source of jobs in a community. Clothes, shoes, accessories and strollers are among the many things you can buy at a decent price while contributing to your community. While Black Friday takes up most of the attention, Savage believes she’ll stack up pretty well against the big day. With proclamations of support from governments in all 50 states, the day is expected to be a success for locally owned businesses across the nation. “Shop small. You’re supporting friends, family, neighbors, your community”, Batcheller said. Share it on social media with the hashtags #BBB and #ShopSmall and tell the world why you love small businesses.
