Volkswagen ordered to recall 3.0-litre diesel V6 models

According to the RAC, just 24 per cent of United Kingdom motorists said they were concerned about emissions before Volkswagen’s test-cheating admissions – the number has since doubled to 43 per cent in light of the scandal.

“(The ministry) has not found the defeat device in the EA288 engine-equipped vehicles – four Euro 6 cars and Golf Euro 5 – for now, but further probe will be conducted for a final check”, a ministry official said.

South Korea has said its own testing showed that Volkswagen intentionally manipulated a diesel emissions device in vehicles with an older engine, and ordered the recall of 125,522 cars.

The engines in question were built by Audi and distributed to Porsche and Volkswagen as well, said David Clegern, a California Air Resources Board spokesman.

The global scope of the scandal has put Volkswagen under intense financial pressure.

Labor representatives at Audi endorsed Mr. Stadler Thursday, saying he “must continue as chief executive” to lead the internal investigation. Consequently, the hacked VW cars meet the standards in the laboratory or testing station, but actually on the road, emit nitrogen oxides (NOx) up to 40 times as much as the Clean Air Act permits. This is a mesh that controls the swirled air flow in front of the air mass sensor which is expected to improve the measuring accuracy of the air mass sensor.

The company has presented details of the technical measures required to resolve the issues for 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI engines. The recall covers 15 models, including the Tiguan, which was the top-selling imported auto in South Korea a year ago. A software update will also be carried out.

It is still unclear how Volkswagen will fix the affected vehicles in the U.S. The company said the fix approved in Europe isn’t applicable to the U.S. vehicles.

Volkswagen has estimated the emissions scandal will cost it at least 8.7 billion euros ($9.2 billion), and it has already slashed investments for 2016 by one billion euros. Diesel cars sold in the USA will require a more complicated fix due to stricter rules on emissions.
