A South Side man man was ordered held without bond Friday for the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Kevin Edwards, of Chicago, is wanted for first-degree murder, police said.

Lee was killed on November 2 in retaliation for his father’s gang ties in an ongoing feud between two rival gangs (but his father has denied these allegations). He was shot in the head and suffered several graze wounds.

“When we solve this case”, he said, “we’re going to find an individual with an extensive, violent criminal history who likely should not have been on the streets”.

Pierre Stokes, father of 9-year-old shooting victim Tyshawn Lee, speaks to reporters in Chicago. FOX 32’s Anita Padilla learned Corey Morgan was charged with first degree murder for the execution-style killing of Lee.

Like a number of other United States of America cities, Chicago has seen a rise in violence this year.

Police said the death could be attributed to two gangs fighting and retaliating against one another for months. “This was clearly not a case of no snitching, but there was a lot of fear”.

“Quite frankly, in a heinous crime like this, he’s probably better off if we catch him than somebody else”, he said.

“They’re going to be obliterated”, he added.

But over time, McCarthy said, forensic evidence, witness identification and information developed from community members helped lead the police to the suspects. “That gang just signed its own death warrant”. “Who drove the auto, who was on the scene, Who pulled the trigger, is all being worked on”, McCarthy said.

When asked if Tyshawn’s dad was helpful in the investigation, the top cop said, “Not at all”.

One bullet cut through the boy’s right thumb, suggesting he was holding his hands out to block the gunshots, according to an autopsy report. But police don’t think Morgan was alone, saying he acted “in concert” with two others.

The suspect was identified as Corey Morgan, of Chicago, by the police department. The bond was set for $1 million, in which Morgan made the $100K bail and was subsequently released.
