Rebels Upset LSU 38-17

Rebels’ quarterback Chad Kelly leads the league in most passing categories.

LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles is reportedly coaching for his job in the last two games of the regular season.

“We’re rolling”, Kelly said.

“He is a talented kid and we have a good scheme for him that he understands”.

LSU, on the other hand, was dogged by penalties and mistakes in the embarrassing loss.

According to the report, the members of the club no longer perceive Miles’ $15 million buyout clause as an issue, and are ready to part ways with 11-year LSU coach.

LSU has several options in front of them if their team doesn’t finish with 10 wins this year, but firing the man who’s made LSU a national power for the past decade shouldn’t be the first and preferred option. The Tigers have been outscored 99-47 in three straight losses to Alabama, Arkansas and the Rebels. If the rumors are true, Saturday’s face plant in Oxford certainly didn’t quell the LSU natives.

The Rebels quarterback has thrown for 3,224 yards this season with 23 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. Brandon Harris threw for just 86 yards against the Razorbacks and 128 yards against the Crimson Tide.

“It’s not something I enjoy in any way”, Miles said.

After opening the season 7-0, LSU has lost three consecutive games to take itself well out of contention for the SEC title or a College Football Playoff spot. LSU running back Leonard Fournette only had 41 rushing yards on 14 carries in the first half. We missed two field goals, turned it over and fumbled going in to have a chance to win it there (in overtime).

The Tigers’ comeback stopped there, though, as Kelly went on to account for the final two scores, an 11-yard run at the 7:34 mark of the third quarter, and the 36-yard TD pass to Engram.

At the same time, those are two bad losses in which LSU looked outclassed.

“We did really nothing for them offensively”, Miles said when asked about his defensive woes recently. “Not how we practice every day certainly. And so what I’ve always done, and it’s strength and weakness, I put my head down and I go to work and I try to do the best things”. Recent blunders and disappointments derailed two promising seasons that now collide in hopes of getting back on track.

But LSU finally found some momentum just before halftime when Harris hit a wide-open Tyron Johnson for a 39-yard touchdown to pull within 24-7 at the break.

Anyway, the team that actually won the game – Ole Miss – played pretty well.

Saturday’s embarrassing 38-17 loss at Ole Miss and next weekend’s game against Texas A&M appeared to be, for all intents and purposes, a referendum on Miles’ tenure at LSU.

Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly is the most prolific passer in the SEC. The SEC West is far from decided at the moment.

Kelly broke the school record for total offense yards in a season (3,857), eclipsing Bo Wallace’s 3,701 in 2013.
