Hair tie caused staph infection on Kentucky woman’s wrist
Gupta claimed it was likely that bacteria from Audree’s glittery hair tie got under her skin through her pores and hair follicles causing three types of infection (strep, staph and poly negative).

To help prevent this from happening to you, CBS Local says doctors say hair ties should be worn lose around wrists, and removed and cleaned often.
At first she thought the slight lump was a result of spider bite but she grew concerned when the size of the lump increased.
We’re gonna go ahead and take a wild guess that if you’ve got hair long enough to tie up you’ve probably got a spare hair band or two in your bag or wrapped around your wrist right now.
A woman named Audrey Kopp from Louisville, Kentucky had to undergo an arm surgery after acquiring a severe infection believed to have been caused by wearing a hair tie on her wrist.
It was only when the initial swelling developed into a painful and inflamed sore that she tried taking antibiotics prescribed by her GP to reduce the pain.
She was lucky to avoid blood poisoning, which can prove fatal, emergency room staff told her.
Dr Amit Gupta, one of the doctors who treated Kopp at the hospital, made an incision into her wrist and drained the pus before dressing the wound.
He told WLKY News: ‘Be careful, you can’t put all these hair ties around wrists, they can cause problems with the skin, with infections’.
“They said that I needed surgery and thank God that I caught it in time or I could have had sepsis”, Kopp says in the video above. She further said that the situation can get worse, explaining that the moment the bacteria reaches the bloodstream, individuals may go into coma.
