In North Texas, three people died after their cars were washed away in rapid floodwaters.

Most of the Dallas-Fort Worth area remains under a flash flood watch, with rain expected to continue.

In Fort Worth, first responders called off their search for a 70-year-old woman who was swept away by the floodwaters, reports Arezow Doost from CBS station KTVT.

While major flooding has not been an issue, a Tarrant County sheriff’s deputy had to be rescued by Fort Worth firefighters after she attempted to do the same for a motorist who had driven into high water in southern Tarrant County.

In Oklahoma, road crews have been applying salt and sand in the Panhandle and northwestern part of the state since Thursday amid an ice storm warning that was in effect until noon Saturday. “Then firefighters ran across the deputy downstream holding onto a tree”.

In Johnson County, a 33-year-old woman was found dead Friday morning after her vehicle was washed away in the rain-swollen Rough Creek between Joshua, Texas, and Godley, Texas. She had left her gun.

A 911 call came from the trapped woman’s son-in-law at 12:53 a.m. Grisham said Deputy Salazar arrived at the scene and told her supervisor that “immediate action” was needed before other rescuers arrived.

Johnson County authorities reported several other high water rescues in the area on Friday morning as well. She was in that position from shortly after 1 a.m. until 3 a.m., Grisham said.

“It is hard for the guys to navigate in the dark and in water like this”, said Lt. Kyle Falkner of the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Heavy rain and freezing rain is likely to stick around through most of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in parts of the central USA due to a slow-moving, complex weather system. With north winds blowing at 15 to 20 miles per hour, wind chills should drop into the low 30s.

“We’ll have scattered off-and-on showers through the day today lingering through Saturday and possibly Sunday morning”, Stalley said.

Friday rain brought flooding to North Texas that turned deadly, kicking off what is expected to be a wet weekend.

While the weather is nasty in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, it’s practically unbearable in the Texas Panhandle, where temperatures dipped into the teens, accompanied by snow and sleet.
