Tyshawn Lee murder: Chicago police arrest man
McCarthy said two other men, including one jailed on an unrelated gun charge, also are suspected in the death of Tyshawn Lee, who was shot in an alley near his grandmother’s home on November 2.

“We got an terrible lot of intelligence from the community”. But police don’t think Morgan was alone, saying he acted “in concert” with two others.
Now, three weeks after his shocking death, one man has been arrested for Lee’s murder. McCarthy said the men’s precise roles were still under investigation but that all were members of the same gang, which the police chief vowed to destroy: “That gang just signed its own death warrant”, he said. An arrest warrant has also been issued for a Kevin Edwards.
Lee was reportedly approached by one or more individuals in the park, where he was playing with friends, and brought to the alleyway. The third gang member stayed behind on the playground, prosecutors said.
Gunpowder residue was found on the left side of Tyshawn’s face, revealing that the shooter likely missed a shot.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who has called the killing “probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime” he had seen in his 35-year career, will hold a news conference about the charges at 10 a.m. Friday at Area South police headquarters.
Meanwhile, marchers are expected to gather in Chicago’s city centre to protest against the police killing of Laquan McDonald, 17, by a white police officer past year.
Earlier this month, McCarthy said Tyshawn had been targeted because his father was connected to one of the gangs. A series of events led up to Tyshawn’s killing, McCarthy said, including at least two other murders and a number of other shootings.
Bond was denied Friday to Morgan, prosecutors said. “This was clearly not a case of ‘no snitching, ‘” McCarthy said.
An autopsy report said the fourth-grader received a graze wound to the upper back, one superficial wound to the forearm, and the fatal gunshot wound to the head.
The attorney who represented Morgan on the gun charges said that his client had been held in protective custody. Morgan then posted 10 percent of his bail in that case – or $100,000 – and was released.
“Whoever did this, there is a special place for them”, he said. He was arrested on an unrelated gun charge and was released on bond earlier this week.
