Shop local on Small Business Saturday

With the bulk of Black Friday over, many Bozeman small businesses are looking forward to Small Business Saturday, a day to support local merchants and shops.

Small Business Saturday will be going on all day Saturday, and after filling shopping bags, everyone is encouraged to fill their stomachs at some locally owned restaurants as well.

If you were to ask a number of Estherville business owners what they value the most at their store, a majority of them would say customer service and quality.

Rachel Levey told 22News, “It’s important to support your community”. Local shops typically invest far more into their community by using local vendors, employing local people and keeping their profits close to home instead of shipping them to an out-of-town headquarters.

According to the Austin Independent Business Alliance for every $100 you spend at a chain store, 13 of that stays in the local economy.

“We’ll have donuts and some refreshments and we’ll have 10% discount store wide tomorrow”, said one of Lucky Tiger’s owners, Amy Heath.

“You’re going to be supporting local families who then support the community, it’s a win-win”, said owner Diane Laudo.

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual “Small Business Saturday” the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

May says after people go shopping, the Downtown Association hopes they check out the tree lighting in the Grove Plaza from 5-7 p.m. Saturday night.

It seems that everybody has heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday but you might not be aware of the a new nationwide shopping event.

Small Business Saturday has been a success with an estimated $15 billion spent nationwide since it started in 2010.
