Hi everyone. We’ve been inundated with hundreds of Facebook messages tonight about a person in our county who posted a photo of a dog that appears to have its mouth taped shut.
Police in South Daytona Beach are investigating a report of animal cruelty that’s circulating in the form of a disturbing photo on social media.
You can view the photo here.
According to the City of South Daytona’s Facebook page, “Update on the disturbing animal Facebook posting”.
Most people have expressed dismay over Brown’s supposed treatment of the dog in the comment section of the post, but Brown has defended her actions.
“Police have determined that this person was out of state for the holiday weekend. We have information to indicate that the dog is OK at this time”, the city wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
Since the picture went online, the police force where she lives in Florida has been overwhelmed by people reporting her for animal cruelty – to the extent they had to put out an appeal asking people to stop calling. We thank you for your help. Please rest assured that we’re aware of the photo and, as the dispatch center for all of Volusia County, have notified the appropriate local police department of the incident.
Channel 9 received dozens of calls about the post and contacted Volusia County Animal Services, which said on its Facebook page it was made aware of the picture and South Daytona Animal Control is investigating.

It is unclear if Brown has or will face any charges on for the photo, or the state of the dog at this time.
