Most gas prices in the region dropped to $1.99 per gallon late last week and have remained steady or even falling more leading up to the Thanksgiving travel season.
AAA says the average gas price in Texas is a $1.86 a gallon, which is 74 cents lower than a year ago. This has helped boost disposable income, enabling many Americans to travel this Thanksgiving.
And the low prices should continue through the holidays into December and January. Driving remains the most popular mode of travel, with 664,000 Coloradans driving this weekend and 53,000 heading to the airport for a flight.
“Giving yourself additional time to get from point A to point B is sometimes all it takes to get there in one piece”, said Lieutenant Doug Mozan of the Eugene Police Department.
The average price is 5.3 cents less than one week ago, 14.7 cents lower than one month ago and 31.3 cents below what it was one year ago. We’ve been below the $2.00 mark here in Alabama for a number of weeks now, probably 6-8 weeks, so a very welcome sight for anybody who’s filling their tank from day to day, week to week.
That’s the 35th highest price out of the 188 cities and towns in the state tracked by AAA. Other than a few areas in Iowa and a couple in South Dakota and Wyoming, the Lincoln area has the highest average gas prices in a large swath that stretches west to Nevada, North to the Canadian border, south to Mexico and east to Pennsylvania.
“I’m not going to let the terror alerts and things stop me, because then they win”, she said.
Some of the cheapest prices in the Midwest are in IN, ranging from $1.80 to $1.86 in Missouri, according to Gas Buddy.
“I’m a little concerned but not that much, because I think we do a good job checking bags in the United States”, stated traveler Ron Barton, going to Kentucky.

“If they keep declining at the pace they are now, it’s just a matter of time before prices reach $2 a gallon”, DeHaan said. “It puts breaks on the energy boom that has been a catalyst to the USA economy”, Laskoski said.
