Shots Fired Again at Black Lives Matter Rally in Minneapolis

The gunfire erupted around 10:45 p.m. Monday on Morgan Avenue North about a block north of the precinct station where protesters have staged demonstrations and camped out since November 15, when police fatally shot Clark, who was unarmed.

Most bowed their heads as they walked through the glass doors, and two women collapsed in tears. They were also joined by U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison. Clark’s cousin, Cameron, also was among mourners. He was one of the five protesters shot Monday night. To a standing ovation, Howell said: “Jamar, your life did and does have goal”. “Your death was not in vain”, Howell said. “We will fight with the tools you have provided”.

At Jamar Clark’s Funeral, some call for an end to the protests while others refuse to stand down until justice is served.

The officers involved were Mark Ringgenberg and Dustin Schwarze. At some point during an altercation that ensued between Clark and the officers, an officer discharged his weapon, striking Clark. On Tuesday, Chicago Police released dashcam video of the shooting on Chicago’s Southwest Side, in which McDonald was struck 16 times.

Dayton would not describe specifics about what he saw in the video, shot from a camera inside an ambulance. Witnesses insist he was handcuffed when he was shot, but police dispute that claim.

“The spirit of fear has gripped this land”, Walton said.

As the Fourth Precinct protest continues, it appears demonstrators are settling in for the long haul. We appreciate Black Lives Matter for holding it down and keeping the protests peaceful.
