And the good news keeps on coming for Virginia Tech with ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reporting Shane Beamer will also stay on staff. Pretty great job by Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock to get his man in Fuente and to keep Foster and the younger Beamer around.
The Hokies and Cavs tee it up Saturday afternoon at Noon in Charlottesville. Landing one of the top young coaches in the country would be a huge get for Virginia Tech. The Hokies haven’t lost to Virginia since Matt Schaub quarterbacked the Cavaliers in 2003, and are going for a 12th straight win in the series. With such a crowded coaching market, there’s a chance that head coach Mike London is safe for the time being.

It will be the last regular season game of Frank Beamer’s 29-year career as the coach at his alma mater, and after failing to win in his last game at Lane Stadium a week ago, the Hokies need a victory to become bowl eligible. They capped the season with a 2014 Miami Beach Bowl win over BYU in double overtime-It was the Tigers first 10 win season since 1938. As strong as the Virginia Tech defense has been at times, it’s been a little vulnerable to big plays and ranks only 62nd in pass defense S&P+.
