No Depay for Manchester United

Louis van Gaal believes there are similarities between Jamie Vardy and Ruud van Nistelrooy – the man whose record the Leicester striker is attempting to break this weekend. “When we need him we can call him back”.

Manchester United have not conceded from open play in eight games in all competitions but come up against the best attack in the Premier League with no team scoring more than Leicester.

Vardy, 28, was at Fleetwood in 2012 when they were a non-league side but is now the Premier League’s top scorer and has netted for 10 consecutive games. “He has scored a lot goals in the Premier League now, and last season he learned a lot”.

“You see players where the ball could have been played forward with a little bit of risk but they tend to go square or back”.

“We have been keen to add a striker, and James has been our number one target for some time, so we are absolutely delighted to have completed the deal”, Brighton manager Chris Hughton told the club’s website. ‘I don’t know what we can take from that game because this is a completely different game with so many new players, ‘ he said.

“In England, because of the quality of the teams and because every team has the money to buy players, the difference in the Premier League between clubs is not so much”. “It is just fortunate that I’ve been amongst the goals and it has taken me on this run that I never would have thought would have happened but here I am with a chance of breaking it [the record]”. Now more so because he is highly motivated and in very good shape.

We are creating chances, and when we are not creating, then maybe I am anxious.

“When Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm there was a clear style and identity but we also gave them the freedom to come up with their own solutions”. He seems a really nice guy and everything I’ve heard about him is all good.

Captain Vincent Kompany has been badly missed and faces another fortnight out with a calf problem, while David Silva and Samir Nasri are also sidelined and goalkeeper Joe Hart was injured in the midweek Champions League loss at Juventus. My respect for him is very big.

United’s frustration only mounted in the early part of the second period as they struggled against the Eredivisie outfit’s resolute backline.

Victory would have sent United through, but the only way they can now guarantee themselves a place in the last 16 is if they beat Wolfsburg away in two weeks’ time. It’s not important how strong the defensive line is.
