The average price of gas in the United States resumed its slide over the past two weeks, dropping 11 cents to $2.14 a gallon, the lowest since late January, according to a Lundberg survey released Sunday.
“The gas prices are great”, said Chuck Stanger, retired BHS director of buildings and grounds.
The Orange County average price is 6 cents less than one week ago, 13.7 cents lower than one month ago and 30.7 cents below what it was one year ago. For many that are driving, the gas prices are something to be thankful for.
Griffin said the breakeven point for gas stations today is probably around $1.90 per gallon.
Currently, the lowest price in Colorado, $1.64 per gallon can be found in Parker, he said. Numerous towns around Lincoln are among those with the highest prices, including Hickman (second), Syracuse (11th), Cortland (13th), Valparaiso (14th) and Crete (24th).
And prices are bucking the usual trend of spiking during the winter.
Since the beginning of November, the prices at the pump have been steadily dropping.

Despite the study, many people hitting the roads say they prefer ground travel versus the air. “I mean we’ve been going a long way on a lot less gas than we usually travel on”, said Janette James. “I don’t know what he or she is going to spend it on, but it’s a substantial amount of money”, he said. Prior to that, prices haven’t been this cheap locally since late 2004.
