Iowa State vs. West Virginia

After pitching a 49-0 shutout last week against a listless Kansas team, West Virginia held the visiting Cyclones (3-9, 2-7) without a touchdown.

Matt Thomas was also in double figures for the Cyclones with 10.

The Illini scored seven of the game’s first nine points and were up 12-6 less than five minutes in.

Iowa State led 40-39 at halftime, behind 10 points from Niang.

Paul Rhoads put on a construction worker’s hard hat with the Iowa State logo, exchanged well wishes with West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen on the field and jogged to the visitor’s locker room one last time.

Malcolm Hill led IL with 20 points while Kendrick Nunn added 19.

The Illini fell to 8-21 against ranked teams during John Groce’s four-year tenure.

Gibson was stellar, turning a short hitch into a 60-yard touchdown on West Virginia’s second drive. Leron Black scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds off the bench.

Jared Nickens added 16 points, and freshman Diamond Stone had a season-high 15 points for Maryland (6-0), which has a showdown with No. 9 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday night.

The Vikings (2-4) were paced by forward Demonte Flannigan, who had 11 of his 20 points in the first half, and guard Rob Edwards, who had 14 points.

Maryland led by four points at the break and increased its defensive pressure to open the second half. He entered the game as one of nine players in the nation with no turnovers in at least 100 minutes.
