Behind Chad Kelly’s 310 total yards and a big first half, the No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels defeated the No. 21 Mississippi State Bulldogs 38-27 in the Egg Bowl on Saturday night. Part of said nice little lead came courtesy of Prescott himself, as he threw a pick-six to Tony Bridges with three minutes and change remaining in the first quarter. Prescott went to the locker room with an apparent leg injury during the first half, but came back in and did not seem to be limited in mobility.

The Rebels (9-3, 6-2 SEC) jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead thanks to Kelly’s 27-yard scoring dash and a 2-yard pass to wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow.

It was Kelly’s 10th rushing touchdown of the season, the most by a Rebels quarterback since Archie Manning in 1969, according to Ole Miss’ official Twitter account.
Prescott completed 31 of 42 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, but he was sacked seven times. Despite a 45 year absence from the New Orleans bowl game, the Rebels still boast the fifth highest number of appearences in the game and would tie Georgia and Florida with nine if they end up there. After forcing an Ole Miss three-and-out, the Bulldogs scored their first touchdown of the game when Prescott smartly extended the football over the goal line while being taken down to the turf.
The Rebels now look likely to end up either in the Sugar Bowl for the the first time since 1970 or the Citrus Bowl for the first time.
Mississippi quarterback Chad Kelly was a little bewildered earlier in the week by Mississippi State’s trademark noisemaker, saying he was essentially a city kid who had never even been around a cowbell before.
