Philadelphia Eagles fall flat in Thanksgiving Day loss to Detroit

Instead, we heard stuff like “I’m not going to blame the offense for any bad plays we make” from outside linebacker Connor Barwin and “we’ve really got to figure out what the problem is and just correct it”, from nose tackle Bennie Logan.

Once Johnson got involved, the Detroit offense became unstoppable.

In the latest debacle for the Eagles’ defense, the secondary simply couldn’t stop Calvin Johnson, who caught three of Matthew Stafford’s five touchdown passes in the Lions 45-14 win over the Eagles at Ford Field.

The Philadelphia Eagles are in total disarray following their third straight loss, an embarrassing 45-14 setback to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

ALLEN PARK Ameer Abdullah has played like a rookie at times in his first 11 games, but the Lions running back has improved in recent weeks. I think we have some really good guys.

While there are many things that are needed, the biggest concern is that the team needs to bolster the offensive line.

The first score was Johnson’s ninth career TD on Thanksgiving, making him the most prolific TD catcher in Thanksgiving history.

The Lions haven’t lost since a front-office shakeup after getting blown by Kansas City in London. “Football is a bit simpler than that”, Detroit coach Jim Caldwell said.

You have to wonder what happens next for this Lions team. “That’s what you’re seeing now”.

It is true that Kelly assembled this year’s roster as he traded quarterback Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy while adding Sam Bradford, DeMarco Murray, Mark Sanchez and Byron Maxwell among other players.

Embattled head coach Chip Kelly said the second straight stinker wasn’t an indication he has lost the locker room. Maybe a few have quit, or at least have gotten very discouraged, but I think there is a better overall explanation for a 4-7 team that never came together the way it was envisioned, and now seems completely hapless.

“All of us got into the hole, all of us will get out of the hole”.

Kelly cited the lack of a pass rush for the flurry of points they’ve allowed. “I play hurt all the time, but right now, I just got bad luck as far as the injuries”.

Kelce didn’t want to let his teammates down.

The Lions led 24-7 at halftime.

Stafford was the star of the show, completing 27 of 38 passes for 337 yards, finishing with a career-best passer rating of 137.8.

The Lions opened the second half with a drive that lasted 7:51.

The Eagles tied the game on the ensuing possession when Sanchez capped an 80-yard drive with a 2-yard pass to Brent Celek early in the second quarter.

Nonetheless, after a disastrous start to the season, where the Lions were 0-6, while Stafford hadn’t cracked 300 passing yards and had thrown six touchdowns to eight interceptions, Stafford clearly looks more comfortable.

Against the Eagles, it was the presence of offensive tackle Lane Johnson, who was drafted one pick ahead of Ansah by the Eagles in 2013.

Detoit continued to pile on the points as Johnson held off Eric Rowe on a four-yard, back-shoulder toss from Stafford to move 31-7 ahead.

The Eagles made it official, putting Nolan Carroll on IR with a broken ankle Friday and bringing back 2014 fourth-round draftee Jaylen Watkins, who had been languishing on the Bills’ practice squad.

It was optimistic to assemble Bradford, and two new offensive linemen and expect everything to run smoothly from the jump. So even if Ryan Mathews is ready to return from his concussion by next Sunday, give Kenjon Barner some snaps. OTs LaAdrian Waddle and Corey Robinson were among the inactives for Detroit….

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is on the hot-seat. The Eagles have lost three straight and are 4-7 on the season. Kelly has led the Eagles to two consecutive 10-win seasons
