The feud reached a peak on October 13, writes the news outlet, when Morgan’s brother was killed and his mother was wounded during a shooting. The killers in that case are believed to be a rival faction of the Gangster Disciples. Garry McCarthy during a news conference Friday morning.

“All three (suspects) are in the same gang”, he told reporters. Tyshawn was playing on a swing set, his basketball next to him, prosecutors said.

The uncharged suspect dribbled Tyshawn’s basketball for a bit and then handed it back to the boy. He was shot several times, including a fatal shot to the side of the head. Prosecutors said the SUV reappeared and followed Tyshawn and one of his murderers into the alley.

Memorial /// Tyshawn Lee, nine, was shot dead after being lured down an alley. He was also grazed in the back, right forearm and right hand.

“He’s definitely underground, he knows we’re looking for him, everybody knows we’re looking for him”, McCarthy said. So far, Morgan is only suspect of the three in custody for the boy’s execution-style murder. “It’s not clear who lured, who drove or who pulled the trigger”. “He’s a convicted felon and gang member”. He was released from jail after he paid the required $100,000 of his $1 million bond. During a Friday bond hearing, the judge yelled and berated Morgan, calling him a predator and a danger to the community.

Arrested with Morgan was Dwight Boone-Doty, 21, of the 7300 block of South Vernon.

Morgan is “an individual with an extensive violent history who likely shouldn’t have been on the streets”, McCarthy said. He said the department was going to assign resources to ensure neither one of the gangs “can raise its head again”. They said at least two others had also been involved. “This was very clearly not a case of “no-snitching” but there was a lot of fear”. Police say he was in violation of his bond when he was taken into custody this week.

On Nov. 17, police arrested Morgan, a person of interest in the slaying of the fourth grader.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Tyshawn Lee, 9, who’s body was found “riddled with bullets”, was the victim of retaliation against his father who had gang ties. The boy’s father has repeatedly denied any involvement.

Nearly immediately, though, Chicago police began to suspect that the boy was not just a bystander caught up in an argument but was targeted for death because his father was a gang member.
