Liverpool V Swansea at Anfield

Klopp is refusing to focus on the top of the table but wants to get closer to the leading pack, who remain in touching distance thanks to Liverpool’s resurgence since the German replaced the sacked Brendan Rodgers.

His opposite number, Garry Monk has been under some pressure recently after a poor run of form which leaves them with only three wins from 13 games so far this season.

“I am not sure that Robert Lewandowski could have developed into the Robert Lewandowski of today in England because no one is patient enough to wait for this”, he said. “It’s good for both of us that I’m here – I like players like this, he likes playing like this”, Klopp told reporters.

According to Klopp, he met up with Rodgers for a chat prior to last weekend’s game against Manchester City.

Klopp said: “It was a very important goal for him”.

“In his case, we always have to wait how we can adapt the intensity; that’s not my intensity or what we are doing in training, it’s his intensity – everything we do, he does 120 per cent. You need to be prepared for this”.

“He trusts how I work, he’s seen the success, what I bring to the club has worked in the past and he knows we can get through this period if we are all united, which we are, and we make sure we get through it and come back to our best”, he added.

Liverpool manager Klopp has raised expectations during his short time on Merseyside with only one defeat in nine games and impressive Barclays Premier League wins at Chelsea and Manchester City.

Liverpool will look to carry on their winning momentum as they entertain Swansea at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds haven’t won at home in the league since Klopp’s arrival, and after their 2-1 win in the Europa League over Bordeaux on Thursday night at Anfield, they will be expected to register another home win against Swansea.

“That is the way the club perceives itself”.

“Liverpool have not been genuine title contenders for a while, but the expectation will always be there because of the type of club it is”.

“They were hard circumstances”, Monk said.

“They deserve big credit for that, and you don’t judge them on that performance”.
