Small Business Saturday was started by American Express in 2010.

But I want to remind you of important annual event and focus that began five years ago, Small Business Saturday which asks consumers to pledge their support to shop at small, local and rural businesses.

“Critical opportunity to showcase all the wonderful locally-owned small businesses in Pigtown”, Hyman said.

“It makes the town a better place”.

The smell of local restaurants cooking up menu masterpieces filled the air as shoppers looked through the many shop windows.

While Mrs. Pinkadot and Bridget’s did have special hours, sales, and arrivals this weekend, they say shoppers can expect more of that through the holiday season.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and our state will not thrive without their success”, Turner said. “We love supporting Jackson’s small businesses because they’re our friends they go to our church and our schools”.

Small businesses are unique but on day’s like Black Friday when “big box” stores are king they’re often forgotten. Last year, 88 million people participated, spending an estimated $14.3 billion dollars. I think we need to support the businesses here, own downtown is finally booming which is exciting.

The nationwide movement promotes shopping local for holiday gift-givers looking for presents.

Ali Oesch of Ali Oesch on the Boulevard agreed, saying, “We have each other’s backs I guess you could say”.
