TCU’s Boykin will start vs. Baylor

The start of the game was delayed 45 minutes by a lightning strike moments before the national anthem.

That was all for Baylor’s offense until overtime as TCU’s defense shut them down. There is a natural turf at Amon G. Carter Stadium, but an improved drainage system was included when a new grass surface was installed two years ago. Replays showed that Chafin was stuffed for no gain. Lewis blitzed from the edge and got to Chafin. If Oklahoma wins, that can’t be the Horned Frogs, since under the Big 12 rules announced last May, they would lose a tiebreaker for second to Oklahoma State and a three-way tiebreaker between themselves, Oklahoma State and Baylor.

Turnovers plagued both teams in the half.

The intensity is set to ramp up again across the country with Rivalry Week in college football.

Baylor, the two-time defending Big 12 champions, dropped to 9-2.

Baylor could still win its third consecutive Big 12 title, and maybe get a playoff spot.

Devin Chafin ran for 119 yards and two scores, and caught a 4-yard TD pass in the first overtime, but was stopped short on a fourth-and-1 play to end the game.

Regulation ended at 14-14. The Bears still out-gained TCU by 40 yards. Particularly notable was the return of the Baylor pass rush, which notched six sacks. “It still no excuses”. But if it is, oh well, we’ll just go out and play.

TCU has their own quarterback that creates headaches for opponent, one-time Heisman candidate Trevone Boykin. As for TCU, the Horned Frogs are 9-2 on the season but just 5-5 against the number in their last 10 games. Boykin could sort of move on an injured ankle, but every time he tried to make something happen, he couldn’t do much of anything on the next play.

Bralon Addison caught eight passes for 106 yards and scored four touchdowns for Oregon. He ran 14 times for only 16 net yards. But after about five hours of fitful sleep filled with dreams of Gary Patterson refusing to shake my hand (yeah, I’m a weirdo), I awoke this morning surprisingly at peace with the outcome of this game and where the Bears are.

The only conclusion that makes sense in this topsy-turvy 2015 season is one that doesn’t make sense and that will be for the Boomers, a 6 1/2 point favorite, to crash and burn in Stillwater. It will be interesting to see how star quarterback Baker Mayfield responds after he was shaken up early in the second quarter of the win over the Horned Frogs after receiving a helmet-to-helmet hit.

“I saw the ball pop out, so I just figured why not run it into the end zone”, Carraway said.

So even if the game might not have the sizzle we expected, Baylor and TCU will always be entertaining. Defensively, senior defensive end Shawn Oakman has a team-best 13 tackles for losses and junior cornerback Xavien Howard has a team-leading four interceptions. “He was about 75 percent tonight”, Patterson said. Everything else comes second, because if you don’t secure the ball, nothing else matters. It wasn’t the most impressive punt of all time, but considering how Perry somehow got it away despite having the most physically intimidating college football player in America swarming him, it’s actually kind of awesome that he got a punt off that went for positive yardage. “We wish things could have been better and we have more guys, but you won’t hear us complain”.

No. 15 TCU making future gains despite back-to-back losses, no chance for
