Aston Villa players’ confidence is low, says Remi Garde

Aston Villa has not won a Premier League home match this season, and Remi Garde has asked fans to help rectify that against Watford.

“The players are low on confidence, that is normal but one day things will change”.

Arsenal hero Martin Keown says Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has allowed fame to go to his head.

Odion Ighalo and Jordan Ayew tempt as 21/10 and 5/2 anytime scorers.

A sustained spell of pressure followed from the home team but it was Watford who went ahead after 17 minutes as Ighalo pounced and slotted past Brad Guzan after Ben Watson’s shot rebounded off Ciaran Clark and the ball dropped nicely into his path. They rallied to come back but we got those two goals. They haven’t been too bad this season and have perhaps been the surprise package out of the three newly promoted clubs.

The sides last met?

The Brazilian received treatment for a lengthy spell before being fitted with a neck brace and carried from the pitch on a stretcher.

It was a time where Shaun Teale, Paul McGrath, Dalian Atkinson and Kevin Richardson were in their pomp and nearly took the title.

Unfortunately for Villa, despite dominating possession in the second half, they failed to continue creating such a sequence of clear chances after the interval.

The former Brazil and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper was kicked in the head in the 61st minute and needed treatment for more than six minutes before being stretchered off.

“I said after the game it was lucky to be only 4-0”. Before the new man could have any impact, however, Villa were behind again to the softest of goals.

Hutton got to a ball but his attempted clearance beat Guzan and rolled into the bottom corner.

Back an away win at 9/5 while odds of 10/3 on an away win to nil tempt for a higher yield given Villa’s goalscoring struggles. Watford have two wins in their last four away games and will look at this game as one that they could take all three points.

And Deeney added his name to the scoresheet with seven minutes ramaining, heading home from a looping Ighalo effort.

Micah Richards hit his first Villa goal to equalise before half time and Jordan Ayew gave the hosts hope with an excellent late strike, but it did little to cheer the Frenchman afterwards.
