Tyson Fury: I’ll be most charismatic since Muhammad Ali

Tyson Fury stunned the boxing world and captured a unanimous decision and the heavyweight championship of the world from an overly cautious Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday night in Germany. Though Fury is 27 and Klitschko is 39, the sheer history behind Wladimir made this a big upset.

Fury – now unbeaten in 25 fights – had to come through three world title eliminators before he finally got his shot at Klitschko.

After he was declared the victor, Fury gave thanks to Jesus Christ while Klitschko, who was cut under his left eye, said the Englishman had proven elusive throughout the 12 rounds despite his big size.

“We’ll soon work out when and where the rematch will take place and let you know”, he added.

British heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury, has defeated former champion Vladmir Klitschko to seal the world heavyweight title, in a 12 round duel. Maybe for Fury’s title defense, the weigh-in will also include a karaoke sing-off. I’ve always been confident and I showed why in this fight.

“I’m a fighter and I will take up all challenges”.

“That day was tonight for Wladimir Klitschko”.

“Tonight’s the start of a new era and I said I’ll be the most charismatic champion since Muhammad Ali and I’ll be that”, he told Sky Sports.

Fury, changing between southpaw and orthodox stance, kept chipping away at Klitschko’s defences with his combinations and by the eighth round the champion was bleeding from a cheek wound. “I’d love to knock a few of them out”.

Indeed, the controversy continued right until the first bell as Klitschko apparently had his hands wrapped without a member of Fury’s team watching, as is custom. Klitschko couldn’t land the power shot to knock Fury out.

Klitschko did not seem impressed, but he will apparently get a chance to exact revenge. “I congratulate him, but it’s to be continued…”

Fury managed to nullify Klitschko’s renowned jab from the start.

“This is a dream come true”. However, Fury landed more of the solid blows and his movement, so impressive throughout, never slowed down.

“I didn’t put the punches in and could not find the right key to open up the fight”.
