Tyson Fury defeats Wladimir Klitschko to become new world heavyweight boxing

In a scrappy fight that was far from a classic contest with most of the action reserved for a frenetic last round, Fury, the first Romany ever to win a world title, taunted Klitschko on an incredible night, talking to him and dancing to a victory which few had believed possible.

Klitschko came to the Dusseldorf arena with the WBA, IBF, IBO and WBO titles and unfortunately left with nothing. After four or five rounds, Klitschko seemed to wake up and realise he’d hardly landed anything telling, but by that time it was too late and Fury had the foothold he needed in the fight.

His father, who was a gypsy bare-knuckle fighter in the 1980s, named him Tyson after world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

“With Floyd Mayweather gone, Wlad took his place and I just took him out”.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live after the fight, Fury said: “I always said what I’d do and I’ve delivered tonight”.

He then burst into a rendition of Aerosmith’s hit ballad I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing, dedicating it to wife Paris and his fans in Ireland, the UK, the United States and Germany.

“I knew I would do it and I knew I would beat Wladimir tonight”.

Vitali Klitschko, himself a former heavyweight world champion and now the mayor of Kiev, said he was shocked by how badly his younger brother performed. Fury threw three times the number of punches as his adversary, and landed 86 to Klitschko’s anemic 52.

“After being deducted a point (for fouling) I knew it would make it closer and you never can tell, so I was very, very happy when I got the result”.

“I caught him with a left hook in the 11th and wobbled him a little bit, he was hanging on for dear life in that fight all the way through”.

“It’s hard to come to a foreign country and win”, Fury said in the post-match interviews with The Guardian.

Anyway, Fury now improves to 25 wins, no defeats, 18 knockouts, while Klitschko falls to 64 wins, 4 defeats, 53 knockouts. I can’t. Wilder’s best punch is his right hand, and he sure as heck wouldn’t hold it back the way that Wladimir was with his own punches.

Fury is looking in fine form with a head clash cutting Klitschko’s left cheek.
