Providence upsets No. 11 Arizona 69-65 in Wooden Legacy

Saturday night was another night for Kris Dunn to display the full range of his talent, as the Providence Friars took on the Arizona Wildcats in the semi-final round of the Wooden Legacy, and after a full forty minutes of play Dunn once again shined as the Friars walked away with a slim victory over the eleventh-ranked Wildcats by a score of 69 to 65. Arizona played without starting center Kaleb Tarczewski, who hurt his left ankle Thursday.

Ben Bentil scored a career-high 21 points for the Friars (6-0) and Dunn finished with 19 despite playing in foul trouble most of the game.

Dunn hit a turnaround jumper for a 67-65 lead, and his fastbreak jumper off Parker Jackson-Cartwright’s turnover sealed the win.

The Arizona Wildcats are enjoying their bye week while most of the rest of college football finishes the regular season this holiday weekend. Evansville (3-1) had the lead early, but the Friars went on a 25-9 run late in the opening period, producing an eight-point halftime lead.

UA Volleyball is the first Wildcats’ squad to beat the Sun Devils this school year.

“We learned a lot over the last two days”, Miller said. Anderson’s two free throws in the middle of it tied the game for the sixth and last time at 65-all. The best player for the Friars and one of the best in the nation is Kris Dunn, who had another solid all-around game in the tournament opener with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals as he continues to draw comparisons to Washington Wizards point guard John Wall.

Providence plays No. 3 Michigan State in the title game Sunday night at Honda Center in nearby Anaheim. Despite this, they were still able to provide significant contributions on the night, though in the case of Bullock he was limited to just eight points, though he also grabbed a team leading four rebounds as well.

The Wildcats trailed 33-32 entering the final minute of the half, but Kadeem Allen drove through traffic for a layup with seven seconds to give the Wildcats the lead.
