Rams QB Keenum still not cleared; Foles likely to start

Rams quarterback Nick Foles will likely be forced back into a starter’s role with Case Keenum still not cleared to play.

Keenum took over for the struggling Foles last week, but then a controversy erupted after he stayed in the game against the Baltimore Ravens despite appearing unsteady following a hit to his head. He rolled around on the field, and had to be helped to his feet by a teammate.

The game was not stopped and Keenum was not removed from the field.

The NFL Players Association also announced it would further investigate the failings of the concussion protocol that allowed Keenum to continue.

After the game, reporters discovered that Keenum was diagnosed with a concussion, which raises questions: Why wasn’t the game stopped? We are continuing that review today, which includes discussions with the Rams and their medical staff, the ATC spotter, the game officials, our medical advisors and the NFLPA.

Fisher said Keenum will undergo additional tests Saturday.

Keenum still hasn’t passed through the NFL’s concussion protocol, according to ESPN, so the Rams are prepared to start Foles on Sunday against the Bengals.
