Shoppers buy local on Small Business Saturday
“We have more fun than any of the big box stores”, Valarie Johnston a worker at Marilyn Jackson’s gifts said.

Small Business Saturday isn’t the only day shoppers are encouraged to celebrate the local stores.
She says shopping at your local small businesses keeps money right here in the community and it’s more personal.
Shoppers were out to support local stores on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015.
“People don’t realize when they come in and buy something from you, they’re technically putting food on your table”, said Jerika Broussard who owns Prima Donna Vintage Boutique.
Small businesses are also turning to the internet to bring customers to their stores. They say events like Small Business Saturday, and local support have helped them stay open.
Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Small Business Saturday.
“People who shop the big stores come out and say, ‘You know what?”
Pickard describes her store as a craf beer bottle shop and tasting room. “The Gables is all about a sense of community and small businesses”, said the owner of Wolfe’s Wine Shop.
A year ago consumers spent 14.3 billion dollars at local independent businesses on Small Business Saturday, and that has a significant impact on local economies.

Allen Kraus has been running his suit shop in downtown Freeport for 25 years and says business in the Pretzel City hasn’t always been booming. “We love supporting Jackson’s small businesses because they’re our friends they go to our church and our schools”. “A lot of our items for sale in our shop are actually handmade by local artisans”, said Diana Klawitter, the co-owner of House of Flowers.
