The Hunger Games Mockingjay-Part 2 (12a)

Jennifer Lawrence is solid as Katniss who now, being the experienced war-torn soldier and survivor of not one but two Hunger Games, is more cold and calculating than ever. Katniss has spent three movies doing everything she can to keep the people she loves alive, and it’s only at the end of the movies that she loses everything. The film picks up immediately after the events of Mockingjay Part 1 and follows Katniss and her team of soldiers as they head to the Capitol to take on President Snow face-to-face. With this being the final hoorah, audiences should expect some iconic characters to meet their demise along the way, however, I refrain from acknowledging who will and who will not survive to the end.

The three previous Hunger Games films, which all star Lawrence, have grossed over US$2 billion. Lionsgate, the studio behind the series, reportedly spent almost $200 million for “Mockingjay 2”, including production and marketing costs.

If you haven’t seen all of the movies in the Hunger Games series, then you might as well stop reading here. Her goal: Kill President Snow, played once again by Donald Sutherland with his trademark depraved panache.

“When I came in everybody was always on board which was an incredible thing”, he says.

Add the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in his final role, Julianne Moore as Coin, plus Stanley Tucci and Woody Harrelson and you’ve had a top-quality cast. The “Hunger Games” movies have been well-reviewed and the finale is no exception with a 72 percent approval rating from critics counted on Rotten Tomatoes.

Part 1 had an opening day of $55.1 million before an opening weekend of $121.9 million.

We can’t wait to see the “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2, ‘ which hit theaters on November 20”. Katniss struggles with her own beliefs and her emotions towards Gale (Liam Hemsworth; Love and Honor) and a brain washed Peeta. Whatever its faults, this remains light years ahead of the Insurgent/Maze Runner film franchises, which have so far failed to steal The Hunger Games’s thunder.
