Joel Embiid likely out for 2015-16 seaon — Sixers News

The 76ers have not said publicly whether Embiid will play this season. “Just think how long they sat him when they thought he was healthy”, a source told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Pompey says a couple of his National Basteball Association sources say Embiid is going to have another surgery on that injured right foot. Embiid now is likely to also sit out another season, and it’s possible the injury could be career-threatening.

The team announced last month that Embiid’s recovery from his previous surgery had experienced a setback.

The seven-footer was the number 3 pick in the 2014 National Basteball Association draft, but missed out his National Basteball Association debut as a result of his right foot injury.

The Sixers are expected to release a statement about Embiid’s immediate future.

The frustrating aspect of this news is that Embiid was feeling great, when he got the news that his foot wasn’t healing. Losing Embiid completely could/would put the franchise back another season. Philadelphia is 37-127 under general manager Sam Hinkie and coach Brett Brown.

Embiid is still only 21 years old, but missing two full seasons of basketball can’t be good for the body, especially considering that he’s been fighting foot problems. He has not played in a competitive game since March 1, 2014, when he was at Kansas. “It’s about the only thing that matters at the end of the day – the health of your best players – and it’s something that’s really important to us, so we’re taking our time”. There is still some concern that Embiid could need another surgery, and that would be a devastating blow to 76ers fans.

The team used the No. 3 pick last month on Duke center Jahlil Okafor, who has had a relatively impressive career start in summer league play.

While Noel and Okafor might work well together, Embiid’s situation puts a hold on the Sixers’ rebuilding.
