Notwithstanding rule, the SSB personnel have repeatedly been entering in Nepali territory in different pretext.

The Indian embassy here, however, had said the border guards fired at the smugglers in self-defence inside Indian territory. “Only two constables of the 13-member patrolling team crossed the border – and they were detained”. The Nepalese official assured the Indian side that the arrested jawans will be released soon.

However, they were released after senior officials of the SSB raised the issue with Nepals Armed Police Force. Nepalese media earlier reported that 13 SSB personnel were detained. Later an official of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) said that constables Roshan and Ram Prasad mistakenly entered Nepal in foggy conditions in the early morning on Sunday.

They have been kept at APF camp in Kechana, it said.

“The local people, I think, they were in reaction and since any kind of incidence might have happened, our security forces, especially the armed police were there to rescue the Indian forces here”, he said, adding that it’s very very normal but these days the people are sensitive due to the acute shortage of the essential goods caused by the blockade.

The APF team had immediately reached Alam’s house and detained them.

The SSB personnel reportedly entered Nepal by crossing the No Man’s Land near Kechana, the media reports said.

“Thirteen of our men were detained by APF at a border post along Indo-Nepal border”.

Meanwhile, an Indian number plate bearing jeep was vandalized at Kanchanpur in Nepal, a media report said. Five Maoist activists were detained following the incident on Saturday, The Kathmandu Post said.
