McCarthy downplays scheme in Packers’ offensive struggles

That is exactly what the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers gave fans last night after the earlier two games ended in blowouts.

“When they do that, we’ve got to run the ball”.

“It’s a basic route”, he said. “So much is made of scheme”.

The Bears got big contributions from more well-known names as well like Willie Young, Lamarr Houston, Eddie Goldman, and Shea McClellin, but they couldn’t have done it without big plays from the no-names which I will get into in more detail below. The nine-year National Football League veteran had 14 tackles, four solo, and one sack.

Lions coach Jim Caldwell isn’t buying the talk about Green Bay’s problems on offense.

McCarthy thinks the Packers can.

“We’re just on different pages”, Rodgers said of himself and his receivers. “It’s the attention to details”. Our issues are technique and discipline in the technique, and quit worrying so much about the plays.

It’s not the play calling, he said.

Adams left the Packers’ locker room without speaking with reporters, but veteran wide receiver James Jones, who dropped a ball in the end zone on third down during that final drive, said the rainy weather should not have been a factor. In the aftermath, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he isn’t pleased with the team’s recent struggles on offense.

Brett Favre threw some kind words at the man who replaced him at quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.

“Didn’t have a very good day today, the consistency we’re getting in certain areas needs to pick up.”

Cutler has broken through for the highest passer rating of his career, 92.7 going into the game.

There he sat in his personal house of horrors ready to feast away six years of frustration. He played only 12 offensive snaps against the Bears, but has had a pair of explosive kickoff returns in back-to-back games. “But Jeff is definitely getting more opportunities, and he’s earned that”. However, he fumbled at the end of a 15-yard run, with Chicago turning that giveaway into a touchdown.

HARD RUNNING: Lacy ran for 105 yards on 17 carries and scored on a 25-yard catch-and-run.

All eyes were on the running back split in Matt Forte’s return from a knee injury, and he played 37 of the 67 snaps (55 percent) compared to Jeremy Langford’s 30 snaps (45 percent).

Aaron Rodgers did his best to save the Packers on the final drive of the game, but Cutler was better throughout the same game.

Despite losing to the Packers 31-23 at Soldier Field in Week 1, the Bears proved in that season-opening game that the days of stupid, poorly-coached football were over. McCarthy alluded to possible changes to the offense in his post-game comments, but seemed to soften on that stance when asked about it again Friday.

McCarthy’s teams have always emphasized being well on the plus side in turnover ratio, and this year’s team is still on the plus side. “Yeah, we’re missing some guys but that’s nothing new”, Cutler, who also missed one game in September, told reporters. “We’re going to have to go in there and get a win”. It’s a game we expect to win, but we didn’t play well enough to win. “And us on the back end creating those tight windows and not letting those wide receivers scramble and get open like they usually did”, Porter said, explaining the success.
