Small Business Saturday in Milford encourages consumers to “shop small”
Businesses in downtown Duluth will host holiday-themed open houses with demonstrations and giveaways, as well as discounts on Saturday.

In 2014, 88 million people got out to Shop Small on Small Business Saturday.

America’s long weekend of retail may now start on Thanksgiving and be bookended by Cyber Monday, but the cornerstone of it could be Small Business Saturday.
For many retailers, fourth quarter sales account for a sizeable portion of yearly sales.
American Express launched Small Business Saturday in 2010 to help bring attention to the imact smaller stores have on their communities and to encourage shoppers to support local businesses.

Tangerine Zebra owner Cathy Hague said she has noticed an increase in the amount of people out on Small Business Saturday over the past few years, and that it has a lot to do with a growing “shop local” movement.

Another major difference that Moorman and Hicks hit on was the fact that when people buy local, nearly 70 percent of that money stays within the community.
Although there’s an ease to purchasing products at large chain retailers, customers may not know where the product originated.
“We treat our costumers, as individuals and try, and help them find what they need, and help them with what they are looking for, and if we don’t have it. We will try and find it”, said Theroff. The survey found that 55 percent of consumers are aware of the day – the highest on record.
