Garrett: “No Issues” For Romo After First Game in Two Months

Tony Romo returned to action Sunday for the first time since his collarbone was broken two months ago and coincidentally, the Dallas Cowboys won for the first time since his September injury.

Dallas was considered to be one of the NFC’s best teams before Romo got hurt, and they began the season with higher expectations than the Panthers.

The Cowboys have been one of the NFL’s worst teams this season, and they are still four games under.500.

On a short turnaround last season, Romo threw for 199 yards and no touchdowns and two interceptions in the 33-10 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thanksgiving.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, left, and Miami Dolphins interim head coach Dan Campbell, speak at the end of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, in Miami Gardens, Fla. It came on a blitz after Romo dropped back and spun away from pressure in his own end zone – a play that neither Matt Cassel nor recently released Brandon Weeden, Romo’s replacements while he was out, would have or could have made.

Romo connected with wide receiver Terrence Williams in the second quarter for his first touchdown pass (31 yards). The Dolphins had nine flags accepted on them on Sunday, giving Dallas a free 74 yards.

“It seemed like he handled the game really well”, Garrett said. Yes, the game ended with 386 yards allowed, 166 on the ground, but it was an 80 degree day in South Florida, it was muggy with rain on and off, and, the Dolphins defense was on the field for almost 40 minutes of a 60 minute game, or 68 Cowboys offensive plays, compared to just 41 offensive plays for Miami. “Now the definition of most valuable player has to do with the impact that you’ve made on your team”.

There’s little doubt the Cowboys are a better team with Romo at the controls. They are what we thought they were – an 8-8 type of team. After struggling mightily with the deep ball the past couple of years, he has improved.

Bryant also caught four passes for 45 yards and a touchdown of his own.

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Javontee Herndon (Razorbacks) caught five passes for 37 yards in a 33-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

What do you think? On the flip side, the Carolina Panthers are undefeated, scrappy and more than willing to beat up anyone who dares to face off against them on the gridiron. But at winning time McFadden found room and showed endurance as well with 96 second-half yards to finish with 129 yards on 29 carries plus three catches for 20 yards.

-LB Neville Hewitt, an undrafted rookie linebacker out of Marshall, started his first National Football League game and came up with his first interception.

Tony Romo shouldn’t have been expected to be great after a long layoff and he wasn’t, going 18 of 27 with two INTs and an 83.5 QB rating. The play of the day from the defense came when McClain cut underneath a Ryan Tannehill pass for an interception and ran it 12 yards to help give the Cowboys a 7-0 lead. Rolando McClain’s first quarter pick 6 was the first of the linebacker’s career as well as the first touchdown scored by the Dallas defense this season.
