Tyson Fury beats Klitschko to become heavyweight champion

Fury had gone into the fight as a 5-1 underdog, with experts and pundits roundly confident that Klitschko would retain his heavyweight title.

Tyson Fury has promised a new era for the heavyweight division after beating Wladimir Klitschko to become world champion on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Klitschko is already demanding for a rematch.

“Japan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, America – wherever it has to be, it has to be. I’ll just say that we didn’t see much of Wladimir’s potential (against Fury)”.

There was little between the fighters in the opening four rounds, as Klitschko struggled to impose himself, while Fury opened up a small cut on the champions’ left cheek in the fifth with a jab.

“Why do we need to mention Deontay Wilder?”.

Fury had a point deducted by American referee Tony Weekes for punching the back of the Klitschko’s head but that did not change the outcome as the Briton finally had a heavyweight boxing champion again. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means. This man has been on top of the world and reigned for nine years.

“With Floyd Mayweather gone, Wlad took his place and I just took him out”.

“I was missing my speed today and I struggled with his reach”. But none of his previous 24 wins came against anyone such as his 39-year-old opponent who has now a record of 64-4 with 53 Kos, reports Boxing Scene.

“I lost the battle, but I didn’t lose the fighter, the fighter is still in there”, added Klitschko.

“When he gets home and has a couple of weeks to think about it, he knows that was a one-sided fight”.

Fury constantly tried to unsettle Klitschko during the build up to the fight, with posts on Twitter and comments to the press about how he was going to crush Klitschko. Fury found the opening rounds easy going and by the fourth those in attendance realized Klitschko simply wasn’t aggressive enough to win the 12 rounds, and in current form would find a knockout blow impossible to land.

“It was very emotional in the ring, I was riding a high way, it was an awesome feeling”, he told The Telegraph. “Wladimir, you are a great champion and thanks for having me”. Another British Heavyweight World Champion.

Klitschko came out hard in the 12th and looked for the knock-out as Fury visibly exhausted, but both raised their fists in triumph at the final bell.
