Police said identifying the suspects was possible because of community intelligence and detective work.

“Shortly following the shooting, [Morgan] stated that since his brother was killed and his mother shot, he was going to kill grandmas, moms, kids and all”, prosecutors said. The killers in that case are believed to be a rival faction of the Gangster Disciples.

Charges have been filed in the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee. “After that day, [Morgan] and two others went out daily equipped with guns, looking to retaliate”.

At one point, Morgan and one of the other men drove away in a black SUV while the third suspect stayed in the park, according to the prosecutor.

“All three (suspects) are in the same gang”, he told reporters.

The three men spotted Tyshawn in a play lot where he had climbed onto the swings after setting his basketball down beside him, prosecutors said.

Morgan was back in court on Monday.

He was “lured” into an alley in what McCarthy had previously called “probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime that I’ve witnessed in 35 years of policing”. Police pulled the men over a few blocks away in Evergreen Park, and found Boone-Doty with one pistol still tucked in his waistband, and the second gun in a duffel bag Morgan was seen carrying outside the hotel.

After the shots, the SUV sped away, according to the prosecutors.

The autopsy report showed the bullets struck the 9-year-old in his thumb and hand and grazed his back.

At an earlier press conference, Police Supt.

“You’re only making the problem worse by talking about obliterating”, said Alvin Agee, who lives near the alley where Tyshawn was murdered.

“We know a auto was involved”, McCarthy said.

Earlier this month, Morgan was arrested on weapons charges unrelated to Tyshawn’s death. Two of the men, who are believed to be involved in the death of Tyshawn Lee, are in custody and one is still at large. The bond was set for $1 million, in which Morgan made the $100K bail and was subsequently released.

Tyshawn Lee, 9, was shot and killed in a South Side alley Monday afternoon. Police say one of them is in custody on an unrelated charge. Police trust he was one of three individuals included in the young man’s execution-style shooting in Chicago prior this month.

At the time of his arrest, Boone-Doty was out on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections on a drug and weapons case. Edwards is from the Chicago area, McCarthy said.

Other experts say the rise in violence in Chicago and elsewhere in the nation was likely not caused by a weakening of police action but rather by the ready availability of guns or a growing heroin trade.
