Texas A&M done in by turnovers in 19-7 loss to LSU

A surreal moment occurred after LSU Football’s 19-7 win against Texas A&M Saturday night.

“We just need to throw the ball more accurately”, Miles said during a halftime interview with the SEC Network.

LSU players didn’t find out until word began circulating about Alleva’s announcement.

Indeed, it was emotional victory for the Tigers, who carried Les Miles across the field on their shoulders after more than a week of intense speculation that their coach could soon be out of a job.

LSU (8-3, 5-3 in SEC play) dropped out those polls for the first time this season after the previous week’s 38-17 loss to Ole Miss, the Tigers’ third consecutive defeat. Initial reports said that Miles told boosters that this would be his last game, but those reports were quickly refuted, as Miles’ comments were apparently misinterpreted.

Expectations have been high not just because of LSU’s enormous athletic resources, but because Miles has succeeded in recruiting players at numerous positions who’ve been good enough to make it in the NFL. Somewhere in the middle of a three hour plus Les Miles lovefest, a football game was played.

Inside Death Valley before kickoff, the crowd roared when Miles was introduce during Senior Day ceremonies. The coach tipped his trademark baseball cap to acknowledge the crowd, raising the volume a little more. “He was part of the Tigers” national championship in the 2003-04 season under Saban.

Earlier this week, Miles comforted a tearful LSU fan during his call-in show.

There were a handful of pre-snap penalties and the passing game was largely ineffective.

And let’s not even go into the conversation brought up every time by Miles’ biggest detractors, who point to the fact that Miles won his lone National Championship following the 2007 season, with a roster stocked full of Nick Saban’s recruits before Saban left LSU for his failed 2-year stint in the NFL as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. A number of his passes sailed over intended receivers or skipped off the grass short of their mark.

Leonard Fournette ran for 159 yards and a touchdown, while Derrius Guice had a 50-yard scoring run for LSU.

The only points LSU gave up were on an 80-yard drive for Texas A&M on its third possession after the Tigers defense set the tone with a pair of three-and-outs while the offense gave them a shaky 6-0 lead.

Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen threw Ricky Seals-Jones for a 8-yard TD.
