Ray Shetler Jr.is facing one count of criminal homicide. Limani said Reed arrived at the scene in New Florence and was confronted by Ray Allen Shetler Jr., 31.

This story has been corrected to show that Shetler is in custody, not under arrest, and a warrant will be obtained Sunday for his arrest.

Limani says a female involved in the domestic situation suffered minor injuries. It was unclear if other officers also fired shots.

Pennsylvania State Police captured Shetler without incident, police said.

County Sheriff Jonathan Held told the newspaper he had met Reed several times.

Thirteen minutes after the initial call, a “signal 13” – indicating that an officer was down – went over the police scanner, the supervisor said.

The officer died at the hospital, according to WJAC-TV. “A police officer responding to a domestic call is typical, and too many of these tragedies happen in this manner”. It really is tough.

This is the third death of a police officer in the past 12 months in the rural communities southeast of Pittsburgh, according to the New York Daily News.

Authorities had earlier warned residents in the area to lock the doors and windows of their homes and vehicles while Shetler was at large. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
