Ban Ki-Moon Hopeful of Ambitious Agreement at Paris Climate Summit
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’s heading into the climate change talks in Paris with a “Canadian approach” to climate change, one that recognizes the work the provinces have already done.

“We’re both part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership – or, we have signed and we are hoping that your new government will ratify”, said Turnbull as the cameras rolled on their breakfast meeting.
One area of focus during the conference will be selling Alberta’s new climate change plan in meetings with stakeholders and governments, focusing on the buy-in from both the oil and gas sector and environmental groups.
The Canadian leader said he is confident that India is committed to a “successful, ambitious outcome” in Paris.
What was building to be the culmination of a year of momentum for the summit – including a plea from Pope Francis to save the planet and U.S. President Barack Obama rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline from the oilsands – but any celebratory mood was undone by the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris earlier this month that killed 130 people.
During talks on climate change, India had forcefully articulated its concerns of the developing countries in finalising a policy statement of the Commonwealth countries in dealing with climate change which is likely to have an impact in negotiations at COP21 in Paris beginning on Monday.
Prime Minister Trudeau’s announcement yesterday of support for developing countries who wish to engage on climate change can be an important step forward in sharing technologies like our CCS technology, thereby creating opportunities at home. “These small states are often told about money but none of them know the number to dial”, Mr. Sharma, the outgoing Secretary-General, said adding the hub will make “climate finance, a reality”.
“It is therefore for human beings to face up to their responsibilities for the good of future generations”.
The Paris Climate Conference, scheduled from November 30 to December 11, aims at achieving a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, and keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.
And while Mulcair said the Liberal government appears headed in the right direction, it needs to follow through.
“So we don’t expect that the targets will be internationally legally-binding”, she said.
Some of Canada’s most notable premiers will join Trudeau at the Paris conference over the next couple of days, while others will attend later in the week.
“The debates we have had since I came yesterday are very, let’s say, lively”.

“We must take action”, Ban said.
