On Black Friday specifically, iPhone and iPads drove $670 million in sales, while Android drove $230 million in sales. That’s making it Target’s biggest day online for sales yet, driven largely by electronics.
Many shoppers walked out with TVs – some with more than one. “We have a large team dedicated all year to helping pull off Black Friday”.
James Frost, UK chief marketing officer at Worldpay, warned: ‘The bargain frenzy may be built on a “false economy”, which could see some retailers start to rein in their sales promotions.
Shoppers are even starting to postpone some of their back-to-school purchases until later in the fall, in anticipation of such deals, Christopher said.
“I just got what my kids asked for, and I bought it because they don’t want to hear how expensive it is, but at least I’m getting my Christmas shopping done early”.
The great grandmother said: “It started at midnight last year and I think it should have been the same again this year, there are people who’ll miss out because they start work early”. It opened on Thanksgiving evening, too.
ShopperTrak will release its final sales numbers on Tuesday. The retail consultancy had 18 members studying customer traffic in different parts of the country. But Deloitte’s Simpson said retailers need shoppers in the stores.
The group, which has always been criticized for its estimates of total spending over the extended weekend because they’re based on shopper surveys and not actual sales data, said it will no longer track total spending for the weekend.

However, according to the Guardian there were over 1 million visits online to over 4,500 sites so far creating $1bn in revenue in the United States which is up by 22% over past year.
