Tyson Fury beats Klitschko to become new heavyweight champion

Tyson Fury is the new heavyweight boxing champion of the world after beating Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko.

There was a rematch clause in the contract in case an upset did occur.

“I lost the battle but the fighter is still in me”, said Klitschko, 39. I want to be a great champion and I want to do it again [against Klitschko]. Who knows what the rematch holds?

Fury constantly tried to unsettle Klitschko during the build up to the fight, with posts on Twitter and comments to the press about how he was going to crush Klitschko.

He added: “I’m grateful to him for giving me this chance and if I can be half the champion he is, I’ll be a happy man”.

“But tonight just wasn’t his night and it was my night”. The ones who disbelieved were very large.

“We were trying for two years to have another child. Every left and right turn I’ve taken has led to this moment and I wasn’t going to let it slip”.

Fury’s in-ring taunts followed a buildup to the bout in which he dressed as Batman and serenaded Klitschko with insults.

“I didn’t put the punches in and could not find the right key to open up the fight”.

While Fury took a small purse to have his shot, he would earn significantly more as the defending champion next time around, particularly if he travelled to Klitschko’s adopted homeland once more.

The fight was a poor display by Klitschko, who finished with cuts to both cheeks while Fury was unmarked.

“I will if you will”, he said.

It wasn’t just by being the first man for 11 years to beat Wladimir Klitschko that Tyson Fury proved he is far from being a typical heavyweight. Wladimir knew, his whole team knew tonight.

Wilder tweeted overnight: “I see you @Tyson_Fury…”

Although he appeared to burst into life in the final round, it was too little too late for the former champion as he now looks to secure a rematch in 2016 having ultimately been outthought and outboxed by a younger fighter with impressive all-round ability.

“There will be a rematch”, he said.

“Tyson can raise his game”.

He said his rise to become Heavyweight Champion was not easy and despite being undefeated so far in his career, he was constantly written off.
