SLOWING PERINE: Oklahoma State won 38-35 in overtime previous year, but Oklahoma was in control before bruising running back Samaje Perine was knocked out of the game in the third quarter with a severely sprained left ankle.

The Sooners jumped two spots after winning the Big 12 title with a 58-23 victory at Oklahoma State on Saturday night. No other conference team has more than two championships in the Big 12 era.

It’s safe to say Riley has things figured out now, and Oklahoma has returned to college football’s elite class because of it. Arguably the biggest and most important game on the slate was “Bedlam”, the annual game between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Oklahoma State’s offense struggled, but had a few highlights with J.W. Walsh tossing 325 yards for two scores, while James Washington pulled in seven passes on his way to a 169 yard game for the Cowboys. An aspect of the Sooners’ Big 12 championship is that it started as a four-way race between TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State and the Sooners.

After the losses Oklahoma State, Florida, Notre Dame, and Baylor suffered this week, North Carolina should either break into the top 10 for the college football playoff committee’s ranking or be on the cusp.

Mayfield took a helmet-to-helmet hit from TCU linebacker Ty Summers early in the second quarter of a 30-29 win last Saturday. Then, and only then, does an 11-1 Buckeyes squad has an outside shot of unseating these favorites if the loss in the title game is humiliating. The Buckeyes can only watch and hope next week as their loss to Michigan State kept them out of the Big Ten title game.

In 2011, Oklahoma was preseason No. 1 and steadily slipped as the season went along.

“Especially this late in the season”. The Spartans have been among the league’s most consistent team the past five seasons, and a spot in the playoff would be an earned reward for coach Mark Dantonio’s impressive run of success.

The Sooners are now 85-18-7 all-time against Oklahoma State in Bedlam football.

The Fort Thomas, Kentucky, native has career totals of 5,099 passing yards and 24 touchdowns – including 2,148 passing yards and nine TDs this season.

Riley knew Oklahoma’s place in the Big 12 from his days in Lubbock.

Perine and Joe Mixon both went over 100 rushing yards vs. Oklahoma State. “I mean, our leaders and our seniors and our captains are doing a great job of keeping us focused and stressing the fact that we haven’t played our best game yet”. It was the Sooners third defensive touchdown of the season.
