A man suspected of fatally shooting a western Pennsylvania police officer who responded to a domestic disturbance remained under guard at a hospital on Monday, while police planned to discuss the killing at a news conference.

Mr. Shetler told state police in an interview at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center that he did not know Officer Reed was a police officer.

31, was captured around 3:15 a.m. while walking near a power plant outside New Florence, about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.

A female involved in the domestic situation sustained minor injuries, Limani said.

State police on Sunday charged Shetler with one count of criminal homicide. Another officer also shot at Shetler, who ran away after allegedly shooting Reed and was found by police hours later.

About 50 people gathered Sunday night at a park in the borough to honor Officer Reed, reported the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Among the other police officers who died in the line of action is Perropolis Borough Police Officer Richard Champion, who died in December 2014 after a vehicle crashed into his cruiser, sparking flames while he was trapped inside. “He really cared for the community”.

Porter, 51, said she is trying to find out more details surrounding the shooting.

Porter and Kenley said they extend their condolences to Reed’s family.

Shetler reportedly suffered a bullet wound to the shoulder in the melee with Reed and was hospitalized.
