Luis Enrique: Is this the best Barcelona in history?

FC Barcelona can end a magnificent week by moving nine points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the BBVA Primera Liga if they are able to beat Real Sociedad in the Camp Nou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Barcelona was unstoppable for the third time in eight days after humbling Real Madrid 4-0 in last weekend’s clasico and obliterating Roma 6-1 in the Champions League.

Messi who was out for few months following an injury, made his comeback against Real but scored his first goal after his return against Roma when he chipped the ball over the Roma goalie’s head. Prior to kick-off Luis Enrique stressed the importance of his side maintaining their tremendous run of form but this result was never really in doubt.

Neymar netted twice while Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi also scored as Barcelona earned another lopsided win by beating Real Sociedad 4-0 to protect its lead of the Spanish league on Saturday.

“I would say Messi will win it once more, for the role he played in Barcelona’s latest treble, but is 2015 going to be the year when Ronaldo finds himself out of the top three?”

Diario wrote “Barcelona destroy Real Madrid”, while El Mundo Deportivo said the game was “A Symphony from Barcelona and a chorus of boos for Real Madrid”.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique meantime told his team’s news site this week that Messi is still not completely healthily.

“We are at a very good level but there is still a long way to go before the decisive phase of each competition”. Let us know by dropping a comment below via our Facebook comment box.

With some serious players in the mix for the Ballon d’Or this year, I’m predicting Messi to take it out, with Ronaldo second, and Suarez or Neymar third.

Messi’s goal came via a tap-in after a Neymar cutback in the first minute of additional time, but Iniesta played down the importance of the Argentine always netting. Returns of Oier and Oyarzun, although they are not a regular first team players, could boost the Basque side and give Sacristan some breathing space.

“We are quite a way off them and if they’re not the best in the world, then they are right up there”.
