France to launch global solar alliance for clean solar energy
Asserting that climate change is a major global challenge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the world must act with urgency to craft a comprehensive, equitable and durable agreement to limit global warming.

“Leaving for Paris, where I will join CoP-21”.
“It also means a growth path with lighter carbon footprint”.
The prime minister, who landed here on Sunday, also held bilateral talks with Presidents Hollande and Obama, as also Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, besides an unexpected brief meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
During the recent Lima World Bank/IMF meetings, India had raised the issue on a roadmap for $100 billion in climate change financing a year by 2020 and had sought more credible, accurate, and verifiable numbers on the true size of the mobilisation of climate change finance commitments and flows from developed to developing countries, Shaktikanta Das, secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, said.
These countries, all potential members of the International Solar Alliance are united by a shared vision to bring clean, affordable and renewable solar energy within the reach of all.
The Prime Minister also mentioned India’s ambitious target of producing 175 GW of renewable energy.
The Indian pavilion showcases the country’s harmony with nature, environment and commitment to mitigate climate change. “So the choices are not easy”, Modi said.
“This partnership will combine the responsibility of government with the innovative capacity of the private sector”, Modi said.

The Prime Minister referred to the need for change in lifestyles both in his address and in an article in the Opinion section of todays edition of Financial Times. “Anything else would be morally wrong”, he wrote, adding: “Justice demands that, with what little carbon we can still safely burn, developing countries are allowed to grow”.
