Tom Selleck ‘stole water for ranch’

But now the actor has been cast as a villain of Hollywood – for stealing truckloads of water to try and maintain a verdant ranch amid California’s drought.

According to Calleguas Municipal Water District, a tanker truck dispatched hydrant waters more than dozens of times for Selleck’s ranch in Westlake Village, where he reportedly grows avocados.

The district also says it spent almost $22,000 to hire a private investigator to document the alleged thefts that date back two years. The complaint comes as California’s historic drought drags on and residents are tasked with slashing water use by 25 percent.

TV cop Tom Selleck may or may not have improperly swiped precious water by the magnum, but he didn’t commit a crime, real California cops told NBC News on Wednesday.

The water district claims that it spotted a commercial water truck stealing water from the fire hydrant from September 20, 2013 to October 3, 2013 before heading to Selleck’s property.

But in a complaint, the Calleguas Municipal Water District points the finger at ex- Magnum P.I. star Tom Selleck.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office also looked into the matter but was unable to determine that a crime occurred, VCSO Sgt.

Documents suggest that the illegal water deliveries began in 2013.

Selleck’s 60-acre, Spanish colonial-style ranch property includes eight bedrooms, stables, a helipad, swimming pool, golf course, and avocado farm.

Bergh provided The Daily Beast with copies of the complaint, as well as cease-and-desist letters sent to Selleck and Mack in November 2013. The suit is for costs of the investigator, pegged at $21, 685.55, as well as undetermined damages alongside an injunction to prevent the star and/or his employees from getting more water.

Water has become a contentious issue in the state, because of the relentless, four-year-long drought. During those four days the same truck with the same license plate number was seen making seven trips to the area where Selleck lives, the complaint alleges.
