Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi shook hands as they briefly met during the climate summit in Paris, Express News reported.
“Whether Kuala Lumpur or Paris, Tokyo or NY always time for good friend PM @AbeShinzo”, Swarup tweeted after a meeting between Modi and Abe. “And we also have the same opinion and hope”, he said. This is the first meeting between the two leaders after Ufa in Russian Federation, where they held bilateral talks on the sidelines of multilateral conferences, and decided on number of steps to takle forward the relationship.
After meeting Modi, Sharif told the Pakistani media that Islamabad attaches highest significance to its principled stance. “We want peace without any compromise on the dignity and honour of Pakistan”, Pakistan’s Geo TV quoted Sharif as saying.
At that meeting, the two leades had also agreed on meetings of the Directors General of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers and of their Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs), which have taken place since then.
PM Nawaz Sharif reciprocated PM Modi’s welcome gesture with these words: “Pakistan desires peaceful co-existence with neighbours”.
Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif were among other world leaders who had gathered at the venue where the world climate summit was to be opened. However, the India-Pakistan cricket series, scheduled in mid-December in Sri Lanka is yet to get the green light from Indian officials.
