After Chicago, Black Lives Matter Minneapolis Activists Renew Fight For Video

On a Tuesday night when everything appeared to go about too as could have been expected, the lingering feelings among black activists in Chicago was discouragement and resentment. A number of the protesters had been rough with the bunch, as stated by reporters and said authorities had showed up in full riot gear the night before. To them, the national script is still backward.

Protest organizers said the Thanksgiving meal, which they dubbed “Blacksgiving”, was aimed at showing gratitude for support demonstrators have received from near and far.

Late Wednesday, police said about six people had been arrested on potential disorderly conduct charges.

“At some point during an altercation that ensued between the officers and the individual, an officer discharged his weapon, striking the individual”, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said in a statement. But on Wednesday, the charge dropped. All were taken into custody Tuesday, but two turned themselves in, police said. For police, Wednesday’s release of London will be a small sign of that deeper change.

In Minneapolis and Chicago, there was widespread aid.

However, they also want videos shot during the shooting to be released, but state and federal authorities refuse.

Police monitor the crowd during a protest for the death of Jamar Clark, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, in Minneapolis. Protesters said they had been harassed by both online death threats and a group of masked men who filmed the protesters and made racist remarks.

Clark’s death came amid a series of high-profile slayings of unarmed black men at the hands of predominantly white law enforcement agencies across the United States, sparking a renewed national debate over the use of lethal force by police against racial minorities.

“I stood behind Black Lives Matter Minneapolis with these requests and have echoed them at every opportunity”, Ellison said.

But there was an edge to the evening, too.

Dayton said he saw one of the videos, taken from an ambulance, which showed little of the incident. “The cops… come and greet these peaceful protesters with militarized gear”.

Hill, speaking in place of a younger sibling, then put out a call to Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, who – unlike past Minneapolis mayors R.T. Rybak and Sharon Sayles Belton – did not attend the funeral service.

“We believe the police department is facilitating the injustice, bullying the protesters”, Williams said.

“You don’t need to watch another video of another black person getting killed to understand the rage and grief that comes along with not only that event occurring, but also with the widespread circulation of a teenager’s murder”, said Ashley Yates of Millennial Activists United, a protester linked to the Black Lives Matter Minneapolis chapter and who was instrumental in White House meetings a year ago after Ferguson.

In a subsequent incident early Wednesday morning, police responded to a “shots fired” activation from the city’s ShotSpotter equipment in the area near the 4th Precinct.

“Ain’t no bullet going to stop me”, he said.

Only across the Mississippi River from the Fourth Precinct in Minneapolis, an answer may be taking shape. The police chief of the Columbia Heights, Minn., has brought crime to a 25-year low through community policing, The Huffington Post reports. According to numerous witness accounts, Clark was placed in handcuffs and slammed to the ground at the intersection of James and Plymouth Ave N. Police say he was not in handcuffs and was struggling to disarm and officer.
