Rams to start Nick Foles; Keenum (concussion) out
On the week that family of HOFer Frank Gifford announced that he suffered from CTE, the league’s continuing mantra of “player safety” rings very hollow. However, the St. Louis Rams will not face any punishment for their mishandling of the apparent head injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Keenum sustained a concussion during last week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens when he was thrown violently to the turf by defensive lineman Timmy Jernigan. Afterward, he struggled to get back to his feet. The Ravens recovered, and kicked a game-winning field goal on the ensuing drive.

As it relates to the question of whether anyone will be disciplined for last week’s incident involving Rams quarterback Case Keenum, the league has confirmed to PFT that no one else will be disciplined, either. In the meantime, prior to this week’s games, we will reinforce with all involved the need to ensure that these injuries are properly identified and addressed in a manner consistent with our protocols.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that Keenum is out and that the Rams will start Foles, per a source informed of their plans. In most instances when a player gets hit on the head or appears to be injured in the head due to a play, his team would usually take him off the field. It was seen that a trainer went to the field to do a check on the quarterback but he obviously did not remove him in order to be subjected to an official concussion evaluation, something the National Football League has been quite strict since the protocol was created and implemented. That’s apparently the extent of the league’s involvement on this matter.
