Adele Takes Australian No 1 With Record Sales In Years

25 – which Adele described as a “make up album” and comes four years after 2011’s 21 – is also the UK’s most downloaded Number One album in history, having sold 252,423 digital copies.

Adele “25” was the biggest selling album in Australia this week generating “heyday” sales of 126,063 copies.

This record was previously held by N*SYNC’s 2000 effort No Strings Attached, which sold 2,416,000 albums in a week.

“25” also broke records in Canada and Britain, where its 800,307 copies sold were more than the last 19 No. 1 albums in Britain combined, the Official Charts Company said last week.

British singer Adele greets her fans after her concert at Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015 in NY.

“For more recent context, Taylor Swift’s 1989 had 1.3 million album sales its first week in October 2014”. The singer, who is two years older than her album title suggests, confirmed the long-awaited release of her third studio album in a Facebook post. As has been reported, that’s the highest number in both metrics since Nielsen began tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991. It took 15 years for *NSYNC’s record to be broken… we can’t see the record being snatched from Adele any time soon. To get an idea of just what an anomaly 25 is in today’s music market, Musixmatch is reporting that more people searched for Adele’s lyrics on Google than for torrents of the record.

Adele is, without a doubt, part of the girl-power pack. Adele has been great for retail. Swift’s 1989 has sold a mere 1.8 million copies this year, which is probably hard for her to swallow at this particular moment. There probably won’t be another album like Adele “25” until she records a follow-up. There is no word on a tour for the U.S.at this time.

What’s interesting is that a couple of weeks ago, One Direction’s ‘Made in the A.M.’ was named the Fastest Selling Album of 2015 in the United Kingdom with 93,189 copies.
